Ákos Czigány: Genesis September 14, 2014 - October 11, 2014


In September 2014 Várfok Gallery welcomes a new artist Ákos Czigány (1972, Budapest) to its ranks of permanent artists, making the presence of photography even stronger in the Gallery. We will start the Autumn season with his debut in the exhibiton space of Várfok Project Room.

Ákos Czigány is a determining, recognized figure of the scene of contemporary Hungarian photography. In 2010 he won the renowned Lucien Hervé and Rodolf Hervé-prize with his Skies – hommage á Hiroshi Sugimoto series and he also won the third prize of the International Photography Awards, and in 2011 he won both the second and special prize at Prague-based Leica Gallerys FRAME011 international photography contest.

The inquiring audience could see his works this last few years at numerous single and group exhibitions including shows in the Hungarian National Gallery, the Mai Manó House and the King St. Stephen Museum in Székesfehérvár. The exhibition in Várfok Project Room will show a selection of Ákos Czigány’s three emblematic series – Skies, Darwin Online, The Light of Art – assessing his artistic period between 2009 and 2012. 

The exhibition will be exceptionally open between 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday, 14 September 2014 within the framework of the program series of Gallery Weekend Budapest.
