El Kazovszkij (Saintpetersbourgh) started his carrier at the end of the 1970s. Apart from painting he also works as a performance- and installation artist, and designs theatre settings. Though his works differ concerning the medium used during their creation, there is something in common in them. They represent the relations between the characters of his personal myths built up from classical philosophy and mythology.
The artist has been exhibiting at the Várfok Gallery for 15 years. His yearly shows were exclusively presenting oil paintings, but this year we find a room full of photomontage. Actually the montage-technique is not exceptional in the work of Kazovszkij (if considering Eizenstein’s 1 + 1 = 3 principle) we find it in his paintings. For this year’s photomontages he reuses the reproductions of his earlier pieces, sometimes even the photos documenting his scenery made for Dzsan-panopticum, a theatre performance.
Besides the montages, in the paintings we meet again the dog, or wanderer, which is to establish the contact between viewer and artist-creator. It often sits at the side of the foreground corded, waiting to explain, to lead everybody in into this fictitious world. In the paintings we meet again his permanent motifs: monuments, chimneys, deserts, mountains, cypress’s, chalices, winged trunks, scythes, Venuses, Fates, ballet-dancers.
The exhibition is opened by Zsolt Farkas, Ákos Szilágyi, poet performs his poems.
