In the latest works of János Szirtes, the significant and multi-faceted contemporary artist, the emphasis is laid on dinamism, depth-compositions, open spaces and the transparency of different zones.

The following idea seems to unfold in his latest works: if the different activities, constituent parts in the creation of the painting, express the gesture as the way of painting (because the basis of painting is the gesture, and action-painting can be defined as a performance), then dynamic lines in the picture interact with each other and the result is an energetic, radiant work of art. The source of inspiration in the latest works was a mathematic formula, the Voronoi diagram. It is a special kind of decomposition of  metric space determined by distances to a specified discrete set of objects in the space, e.g. by a discrete set of points. János Szirtes learnt about this diagram due to earlier artistic works and young colleagues. He is planning to turn this pictorial system into an animated interactive LED installation generated by human movement. The inspiration for the works currently exhibited in Várfok Gallery’s XO Hall were the Voronoi diagram pictures created by the computer. The result can be considered as a sort of generalized painting program.

the exhibition will be opened by artist László feLugossy.
